  I agree with Jer- What exactly constituted the Hazardous Material mess? 
Was there asbestos in the roof insulation, or chemicals in the electrical bits?
  Also, the rusty mess portion could also have played a part. When I joined 
the Ordnance Museum Foundation in 1993, one worry was the fate of the last 
WWI vintage MkVIII tank in the world. The Museum owned it, but it was 
becoming so un-stable after decades in weather that they were afraid to 
move it. Recently, I heard that a couple other one of a kind tracks were 
junked (German WWII) because of too much weather and not enough money to 
stabilize them...
