The business of trying to get a profit in one part of the corporation
trying to keep the railroad afloat. It worked for PRR and NYC for a
decade or so. There was no way they were going to make a profit strictly
by railroading. None.

Others will loan you money to buy new equipment. You can't get this money
for upkeep, and the railroad wasn't bringing in the kind of money it
