The reason one end of a locomotive is designated forward and denoted with an "F" is that is the direction to
locomotive will move when the reverser switch is in the "forward" position and the throttle is advanced from
the idle position into an operating throttle position, ie throttle 1 through throttle 8. So the "F" must agree
with the wiring on the control stand. Otherwise the train crew and hostlers are going to be in for a big
surprise when the engine moved in the direction opposite to their expectations.
