I moved with my family to Powhatan Point in Dec. of 1975. I was only 5
years. 20 yards behind the house was a cut that contained Penn Central's
"Powhatan Secondary Track" It seved as my entertainment for all of my
childhood. I can remember some of the PC units but most of my early memories
are of the PC Black units with the worms painted out with CR stenciled over
them. I would always run to the top of the bank and watch as the trains
passed below me. The crews got got use to me being thetre and would blow the
horn before they approached so I would have time to get out there. When I
was about 14 (1984 or so) I got my first of many cab rides. I remember the
engines stopped below my house and the engineer walked out & asked me if I
wanted to go to the coal mine with them and they would bring me back in the
"taxi" in a few hours. I ran to the house asked my parents and they said O.K
so off I went. The engine I was in was a U23B (I can't remember the number)
but that first trip will always be my favorite.
Sorry to ramble on,
